Abstract
Siemens have developed a new generation of coal-fired 800-1000 MW units, characterized by the introduction of improved martensitic steels, an innovative boiler design and high turbine efficiencies. In connection with the integration of proven processes and systems, it is thus possible to realize power plants which offer considerable customer benefits. Discussion is presented of: possibilities of efficiency enhancement; materials; unit capacities; cost-effectiveness of supercritical power plants; steam generators; steam turbines; and power plant operation. 3 refs., 24 figs.
