Abstract
Before a welfare facility is introduced into a home, studies should be sufficiently conducted about the circumstances of daily life, not only of the aged user but also of the family members who take care of the aged user. In the development of handrails, it is found that plastic foam containing wood flour presents the feel of wood, easy to bend when heated. Materials are investigated for flexural strength, and ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is chosen as the suitable material. As for devices to assist toileting, a system is developed under which the patient's legs are raised. Since there are arguments for and against the operation itself of mechanically raising a patient's legs, however, efforts will continue to develop much advanced systems. In the study of walk and transfer behavior, a toilet frame mockup is designed and manufactured, which is for collecting data. In an preliminary experiment, tests are conducted about a transfer from a chair to another and, assuming a physically handicapped patient, a transfer from a wheelchair.
