Abstract
The Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy is the biggest one within Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and it is a leading and complex center for research and application of the nuclear physics in Bulgaria. The scientific staff of the Institute has been worked on more then 100 tasks mainly on the traditional scientific directions, in the field of: theory of the elementary particles, field theory, atomic nuclei and quantum phenomena; experimental physics of the elementary particles, nuclear reaction, structure of atomic nuclei, cosmic rays and gamma-astrophysics at hyper high energies; neutron interactions and cross sections, physics of the fission; reactor physics, optimization and safety of nuclear reactors, nuclear energy, development and relation with alternative energy sources; collection, transport, treatment and conditioning of radioactive wastes; dosimetry and radiation safety, radioecology; monitoring and management of the environment; radiochemistry, high precision analyses of substances, development and production of radioactive preparations; nuclear and neutron methods for investigation of substances, nuclear instrument development and production. Short reports of these tasks and some original results of both fundamental and applied research are presented. A few years ago the institute leadership clearly defined the priorities for applied research in INRNE. Almost half of the tasks are
