Abstract
34 and 80 MeV deuterons scattered elastically from some nuclei between {sup 12}C and {sup 208}Pb are analysed using the 3-parameter strong absorption model due to Frahn and Venter. The interaction radius, surface diffuseness and the reaction cross section have been determined from the best fit values of T,{Delta} and {mu}. The inelastic scattering of deuterons from even-even nuclei {sup 12}C, {sup 58}Ni, {sup 68}Zn and {sup 120}Sn exciting to 2{sup +} state are also analysed giving the deformation parameter.
