The global uranium market: supply and demand 1992-2010

Abstract

This article draws together data from various sources on the historic and predicted supply of and demand for uranium worldwide. Data on existing uranium fuel production facilities and reactor generating capacity is also supplied. Uranium fuels are central to the nuclear industry`s ability to generate electric power so forecasts of expansion in nuclear generating capacity depend on appropriate supplies being available. This article describes uranium reserves and resources worldwide, and particularly for the United Kingdom. The present UK position on nuclear power is set out in a statement from a past Secretary of State for Energy to the President of the Board of Trade. (UK).
