Raman spectra of rare earth oxy sulfates

Abstract

Raman spectra of the rare earth oxy sulphates (LnO){sub 2}SO{sub 4} (Ln=La,Nd,Sm,Eu) are measured. The symmetry species of the optical modes have been determined by the site group analysis and the correlation method. Vibrational assignments are proposed. It is known that the observed frequencies of some vibrations can be correlated linearly with the atomic number of the rare earth elements. (author). 7 refs, 2 figs, 1 tab.
