Abstract
A simple, rapid and cheap method for the determination of vanadium on trace amounts has been worked out. Employing sodium sulphide as reductant, pentavalent vanadium is reduced to tetravalent which forms reddish brown complex with oxine in hydrochloric acid solution in the presence of sodium acetate. The coloured species is quantitatively extracted into methyl isobutyl ketone and absorbance is measured at 430 nm. The method is free from the interference of Mo, Mn, Cr, Ni, Ag, W, U, Zn, Re, Os, Pt, Pd, Ru and Rh. (author). 16 refs, 1 fig., 2 tabs.
