Abstract
Operational measurements recording total electricity consumption and consumptions of different techniques were taken every fifteen minutes over a period of two years on 30 farms. The measurements were taken for techniques representative of Danish farming. The operational measurements have comprised determination of load profiles (kW) and consumption patterns (kWh) as well as estimation of the consequences of using 3-period tariffs in farming. Measuring equipment will remain installed on the 30 farms over a long period, as it can be used for predicting the future agricultural electricity consumption. During the period 1987-1991, electricity consumption on the selected farms has increased by 20 per cent on the average. The estimated electricity consumption for the project`s energy analysis and the electricity consumption which was later demonstrated by the operational measurements are fully consistent with one another. Calculations show that if 3-period tariffs are introduced in agriculture although electricity expenses will be reduced on most farms, some farms can expect increased expenses. Low-cost night current allows for research and development of new techniques, e.g. energy storage, with reference to later utilization in connection with cooling plants. (AB)
