Note on R.F. photocatode guns triggered by synchrotron light

Abstract

This note explores the conditions under which synchrotron radiation can be used to trigger a photocathode gun. Such a solution may offer, in principle the possibility of filling all the buckets of the RF and an almost negligible cathode emittance. The coupling of such a system to a tripling frequency free electron laser (FEL) is also discussed.
