Abstract
The aim of the project is to examine the potential of the wind energy production in ten locations in the Simplon area. The locations were selected on the basis of climatological and topological criteria. Measuring instruments from Messrs Secondwind Inc. were used. All the wind measurement stations have been in operation since March 1990 with a low failure rate of 3.4%. The raw data was processed with the methods provided in the `Meteonorm`. Where possible the measurements for the BEW project `INTRAMUROS` were included for comparison purposes. The data evaluation allows the portrayal of the wind energy potential in each location and a global portrayal of the wind situation in the Simplon area. The usage potential of several locations, above all Chluise, is very high. Thanks to the good accessibility afforded by the locations and the good connection conditions the use of the wind energy in the Simplon area could constitute power generation economy previously unknown in Switzerland (apart from existing hydroelectric plants). figs., tabs.
