Abstract
By using the characteristics of primary cooling system on HFETR(high flux engineering test reactor), the improvement of operating method is discussed. Based on the actual measured data, the calculating results of system resistance are presented. The results showed that the increase of the charge of fuel elements and the decrease of flow rate in primary cooling system by decreasing rotating speed of main pumps would lead a decrease of operating power, save energy and meet the demand of isotope production and test of fuel elements and materials. The main measures for improving the primary cooling system and the economic benefit owing to the improvement are introduced.
