Abstract
The monitoring and analysis of radioactive concentrations in drinking water in towns of Taihu and Sunan Canal were conducted during 1989 {approx} 1991. The results demonstrate that the average radioactive concentrations in drinking water in the main towns in the area including Wuxi, Suzhou and Changshu are as follows: total alpha 2.12 x 10{sup -2} B{sub q}/L, total beta 1.19 x 10{sup -1} B{sub q}/L, {sup 40}K 8.13 x 10 {sup -2} B{sub q}/L, natural uranium 6.56 x 10{sup -8} g/L and natural thorium 4.97 x 10 {sup -8} g/L.
