Search for asymmetry in the decays of the charmed strange baryon {Xi}{sub c}{sup +}

Abstract

The decays {Xi}{sub C}{sup +}->K{sub S}{sup 0} p K{sup -}{pi}{sup +} were registered by the BIS-2 spectrometer in a neutron beam with a mean momentum {approx_equal} 40 GeV/c at the Serpukhov accelerator. The asymmetry of K{sup -} emission by the {Xi}{sub C}{sup +} relative to the production plane is measured: A(K{sup -}) = 0.52 {+-} 0.26(st.){sub -0.11}{sup =0.24} (syst.). Such asymmetry has been measured for the first time and indicates a possible polarization of {Xi}{sub C}{sup +} at the level of about 10% at 90% C.L. 35 refs.; 4 figs.; 2 tabs.
