Abstract
Reported are emission and uptake of the greenhouse gases CO{sub 2}, N{sub 2}O and CH{sub 4} for the swedish forest industry. The contribution to the greenhouse effect is calculated from these figures. At present, the forest industry accounts for a net uptake of greenhouse gases corresponding to 20 Mtonnes CO{sub 2}-equivalents/year when the cumulated effect of CO{sub 2}, N{sub 2}O and CH{sub 4} are taken into consideration. This net uptake is due to an increasing forest biomass. However, when equilibrium is reached, N{sub 2}O and fossile CO{sub 2} emissions will be of an increased importance for the total contribution to the greenhouse effect. 36 refs, 5 figs, 20 tabs
