Abstract
This paper examines the technical and cost feasibility of three energy storage schemes which electric utilities could apply to their fuel oil or gas fired power plants as alternative solutions to shut down during periods of low demand. Two of these schemes involve the use of the energy produced during night-time operation to operate cold storage and water heating systems to help satisfy local day-time building space heating and air conditioning requirements. The other alternative involves the feeding of night-time produced energy to a system of storage batteries coupled with an dc/ac inverter.
