Abstract
The topic of this thesis is reliability testing of mechanical components, in which wear is a dominant failure mechanism. As the time to failure is often much longer than the time available for testing, the test must be accelerated. An important part of the test preparation is the mechanical evaluation. The main motivation has been components operating under demanding conditions, and which may cause serious safety or economic consequences in the case of failure. An important group of such equipment are hydraulic components (valves, actuators and pumps) used in subsea petroleum production systems. The objectives of the work have been to: Describe the technological basis and problem area of accelerated testing of components exposed to wear; Contribute to further development of methods for accelerated testing and mechanical evaluation. The thesis is divided into two parts. Accelerated testing and mechanical evaluation of components exposed to wear - theoretical part; Case study - accelerated wear testing of hydraulic gear pumps. In addition, background knowledge is given in three appendixes, on the topics wear and lubrication, reliability of hydraulic equipment, and lifetime distributions. 59 refs., 46 figs., 2 tabs.
