Abstract
The aim of the project was to produce a 500 kW grid connected wind turbine that would have an operational economy at the same level as smaller 100-200 kW wind turbines. It was attempted to find untraditional solutions for some of the measurement tasks. The prototype wind turbine produced 1,315 MWh during the first year of operation. The calculated nominal annual production of a wind turbine in roughness class 1 is otherwise 1,286 MWh. The simple construction of the prototype makes it suitable for local production. The design of this wind turbine, its control system, safety systems, location, construction and cost are described in detail in addition to the air brake test performed, and the measurement system.
