Abstract
The most essential objectives in the development of the ferrochromium process are the reduction of energy consumption and improvements in the recovery of chromium. For measuring the activity of chromium oxide in slags, there was developed a measuring system based on an oxygen-ion conductive solid electrolyte. Owing to the high temperature and aggressive nature of the slags, there were difficulties in the measurements as for the life of cell and crucible materials. Progress was made by developing the technique, and measurements were carried out for the basic slag system CaO- SiO{sub 2}- Cr{sub x}O, as well as for individual 4-component slags, and reproducible results were obtained.
