Preliminary dose estimates in high background radiation areas of Orissa coastal region near Chatrapur

Abstract

External gamma radiation levels and potential alpha energy concentration of radon daughters have been measured at about 10 locations around Chatrapur monazite sand deposit in the coastal regions of Orissa State. These have been done employing respectively TLDs and SSNTDs in quarterly integrating cycles. The results are presented for the 4-year period, 1990-1993. The extensive TLD data indicate that they are log normally distributed and the external gamma doses to the population range between 1.21 and 6.02 mSv/y. The limited SSNTD measurements lead to inhalation dose estimates ranging between 1.31 and 6.19 mSv/y. (author). 5 refs., 2 figs., 1 tab.
