Abstract
This paper presents a progress report on on-going research activities at ENEL, the Italian National Electricity Board, regarding the seismic qualification of standardized GIS (gas-insulated substations). Starting from experimental and analytical activities performed on standardized metal-enclosed primary distribution substations (170 kV), a methodology suitable also for lower (MV) and higher (EHV and UHV) voltage ranges has been defined, taking into account the site characteristics in terms of seismic severity and soil properties.
