They summarize the information about all possible consequences of the Chernobyl accident affecting the health of the Bulgarian population. The following topics are included: evaluation of radiation risk based on the radiation doses specified for the Bulgarian population including prenatal irradiation and inhalation of hot particles; analysis of oncological morbidity (general, of thyroid and of hemopoietic system); analysis of congenital malformations, registered in different hospitals during the first six years after the accident; directions for future epidemiologic studies; methodological and organizational problems in case of radiation accident. (A.B.).
