Abstract
Laboratory tracer experiments are carried out to understand the physico-chemical behaviour of Np in seawater using {sup 237}Np. For this purpose the sorption and desorption from cation exchange resin Dowex-50 X 8 has been used as index. The volume wise distribution coefficients on the above cation exchanger that could explain the elution behaviour from columns are in the range of 20-30 and this may be due to the high competition from the cation content of seawater constituting its ionic strength.
