Abstract

It is claimed that straw is the form of renewable energy which is most used today. Only 16% of the potential resources of this type of fuel is utilized at the time of writing. If its use were to be increased, the total emission of carbon dioxide would be decreased and this would, it is stated, weaken the greenhouse effect. Five types of straw were used as fuel in four different types of plant in order to investigate the combustion properties and to contribute to the optimization of straw-fired plants. The plants were stoked with either sliced or split bales, or with whole bales stoked one-by-one or in batches. (AB) 20 refs.
