Investigation of combustion in pulverized coal fired burners

Abstract

A summary of the fluid dynamic aspects and the NO emission mechanisms of swirl stabilized coal flames are given on basis of a literature review. Partly under the present project an experimental furnace burning pulverized coal was constructed and commissioned. Global measurements of NO and burn out as a function of burner operating conditions were performed with a 0.5 MW and a 1.4 MW swirl stabilized burner. Analysis of measurements of local velocity have been performed on several different flames and the corresponding cold flows. (au) (29 refs.).
