Abstract
This paper discusses free electron laser dynamics, and solves the Liouville equation ruling the longitudinal phase-space evolution of the electron beam. It evaluates the bunching coefficients and studies the interplay between FEL dynamics and harmonic generation. The effect of the initial beam energy spread is also included.
