Abstract
It is shown that the evolution of a charged beam, undergoing linear transport elements, shares striking analogies with coherent and squeezed states, which have been shown to be linear canonical transforms of the ground state harmonic oscillator. This note shows that the formalism of the Wigner phasespace is the natural framework to study the evolution of charged beamtransport through linear magnetic systems.
