Abstract
A simplified description of crystal field for rare earth ion systems, taking in account the first two energy levels is presented. The Hamiltonian is constructed using wave functions of these levels and, the equation of magnetic state is derived. The model is applied to PrAl{sub 2} using experimental data of magnetization versus temperature. The parameters of magnetic behaviour at T = OK and T = T{sub c} are analysed. (M.C.K.).
