How to measure the polarization of the deuteron beam at LNS. The low energy polarimeter

Abstract

A few modifications concerning the low energy polarimeter and in the procedure of the polarization measurement have been introduced. The main improvements which have been done concern: - a continuous dead time measurement used for the on-line correction of the polarization; - the possibility of counting faster (of the order of 3 times) by connecting the PBE to the maximum Hyperion frequency instead of the Saturne T2-T3 spills; -the partial replacement of the electronics in order to minimize the time of tuning, in particular with respect to the changes of beam type: lithium or deuterons and to improve the detection at high counting rates. The purpose of this note is to help the users of the polarimeter: - Section (2) describes the conditions of operation; - Section (3) gives informations on the new electronics; - Section (4) indicates the procedure to follow in order to have a correct and fast measurement. - Section (5) shows how to start with the computer.
