Investigation of Magnesium Elektron Ltd. absorbers for the removal of radionuclides from aqueous waste streams - a column experiment

Abstract

A mixture of zirconium hydroxide and zirconium phosphate absorbers available from the Chemical Division of Magnesium Elektron Ltd., has been tested in a packed bed geometry for the removal of some radionuclides from a simulated waste stream at pH 9. The removal of chromium, antimony, ruthenium, caesium, iron, zinc, cobalt and mercury was as expected from earlier work on the individual absorbers. Manganese removal was considerably less than expected, the reasons for this are not known. (Author).
