Computer simulation of non-steady state moisture diffusional flow in wood

Abstract

Numerical methods have been used to study the problem of one-dimensional parabolic diffusional flow of moisture in tropical hardwoods. Two computer programmes were written to determined the variation of moisture concentration with time at various locations in the wood specimen. A `gnuplot` software was used to plot the data to simulate the moisture flow for both absorption and desorption. The curves show clearly the non-steady behaviour of the differential processes as obtained from the experimental work. (author). 4 refs, 2 figs, 2 tabs.
