Abstract
The objective of the study was to consider all aspects of the feasibility of building and operating a medium size wind turbine in an offshore location that would be representative in terms of sea bed, wave, wind, tidal and operational conditions of future large offshore wind farms. The study addresses the technical, institutional and statutory aspects of the wind turbine site. It evaluates the environmental conditions at the site and the support structure and wind turbine loads. Three support structure design options are considered and preliminary designs produced for each. Options for the method of installation of the turbine and foundations are considered together with the submarine cable, electrical system, grid connection and control and monitoring systems. (author)
