Abstract
Biomass energy commercialization feasibility is assessed for the Italian Alpine region of Piemonte. Attention is focussed on the socio-economic viability of the use of wood wastes deriving from local lumber mills and from logging activities, as well as, on the use of rice husks and hay grown in the Padana Plain area at the foot of the Alps. The biomass is proposed as a fuel for combined cycle power plants producing electric power and hot water for district heating.
