Abstract
A postal survey was undertaken during 1987 to collect energy consumption data from the malt whisky industry in the United Kingdom. The results from the study are presented in this Energy Consumption Guide, and compared with the results from a similar study carried out in 1984. Replies were received from 71% of the active malt whisky distilleries; this represents 83% of production at the time. The specific energy consumption data reported varies between 22 MJ/lpa and 64 MJ/lpa, with an average of 36.6 MJ/lpa. This average shows a 15% reduction from the 1984 value of 43 MJ/lpa. (author).
