Natural gas today and tomorrow; Erdgas heute und morgen

Abstract

This report discusses the role of natural gas in the energy markets of the former Federal Republic of Germany and in the new provinces of unified Germany, the reliability of energy supplies, the low-pollution, low-CO{sub 2} consumption of natural gas, energy conservation, the ruling prices, the efficiency of the German gas industry, and the reliability of natural gas supplies over the long term. The prospects of the German gas industry are considered to be in the moderate increase of the share of natural gas in primary energy consumption, the installation of distribution systems all over eastern Germany, in qualitative growth, in the long-term stabilization of natural gas supplies, and in the advancement of low-pollution, energy-saving gas applicances and systems. The market experiences gained within the competitive, liberal frame set by the Federal Government are passed on to help improve the European dialog. The German gas industry would not welcome regulations as a result of changes in the previously valid basic conditions. The gas utilities support the European Energy Charter`s target of intensifying the cooperation of the eastern and western parts of Europe in all fields of energy economy. (orig/HSCH). [Deutsch] Die Broschuere behandelt folgende Themenkreise: Erdgas im Energiemarkt der alten und der neuen Bundeslaender; Sicherheit der Energieversorgung; umwelt- und klimaschonende Verwendung; Energiesparen; Marktpreise; Leistungsfaehigkeit der deutschen Gaswirtschaft; langfristig gesicherte Erdgasversorgung. Als Perspektiven der deutschen Gaswirtschaft werden gesehen: moderater Ausbau des Erdgasanteil am Primaerenergieverbrauch; Aufbau einer flaechendeckenden Gasversorgung in Ostdeutschland; qualitatives Wachstum; langfristige Stabilisierung des Erdgasbezugs; Weiterentwicklung emissionsarmer und energiesparender Gasgeraete und -anlagen. Die deutsche Erdgaswirtschaft ist auf Basis der grundsaetzlich wettbewerbsorientierten und liberalen Energiepolitik der Bundesregierung bemueht, ihre Markterfahrungen in den europaeischen Dialog einzubringen. Sie plaediert dafuer, dass Aenderungen bisheriger Rahmenbedingungen nicht zu Regulierungen fuehren. Die deutsche Gaswirtschaft unterstuetzt die europaeische Energie-Charta. Diese hat das Ziel, die energiewirtschaftliche Ost-West-Kooperation auf allen Gebieten zu intensivieren. (orig./HSCH).}
