Radiation control act 1990 no. 13 (7/6/1990) New South Wales

Abstract

The object of the Act is to ensure the protection of persons and the environment against exposure to ionizing radiation and harmful non-ionizing radiation, taking into account social and economic factors and recognising that radiation is needed for therapeutic purposes. The Act regulates and controls the sale, use, keeping and disposal of radioactive substances and radiation apparatus, but does not apply to radioactive ores as defined by the Mines Inspection Act 1901. It provides for a licensing system for such substances and apparatus, the licensing authority being the Director-General of the Department of Health, under the overall authority of the Minister for Health. No person may sell or use the substances or apparatus without a licence granted by the Director-General. A licence is granted only following the recommendation of the Radiation Advisory Council set up under this Act. Elle prevoit un systeme d`autorisation pour ces substances et appareils. Les autorisations sont delivrees par le Directeur-general du Ministere de la Sante, sous le controle du Ministre de la Sante. Il est interdit de vendre ou d`utiliser des substances radioactives et des appareils emettant des rayonnements sans une autorisation delivree par le Directeur-general. Cette autorisation n`est accordee qu`a la suite d`une recommandation du Conseil consultatif en matiere de rayonnements, etablie par la presente Loi.}
