Abstract
This paper briefly describes the results of a large ENEL (Italian Electricity Board) program on corrosion fatigue in pressure vessel steel in nuclear grade water. The experimental data show that, for this material, the use of the superposition model can be useful in predicting the maximum possible crack growth rate from laboratory tests results. With the aim of obtaining a better understanding of crack growth rate mechanisms, an investigation of the crack tip environment was performed and the results are encouraging.
