Abstract
Resonant production of doubly charged tin ions from MPI (multi-photon ionization) of tetramethyltin and tetraethyltin molecules is observed in nanosecond multimode laser fields at intensities up to 50 GW/cm/sup 2/. It is found that the Sn/sup 2+/ ions are created in a stepwise process including the production of Sn/sup +/ ions and their subsequent resonant ionization. The production of Sn/sup +/ ions in the two lowest electronic states is observed.
