Abstract
The aim of this study is to propose and test a methodology for the assessment of liquid hydrogen production and distribution ways. Processes are assessed on the basis of three criteria, which are linked to energy-related, economic and environmental considerations. This method has been used for two ways of liquid hydrogen production and distribution: - hydrogen production by natural gas steam reforming; transportation of the hydrogen gas; liquefaction; storage of the liquid hydrogen; transportation of the liquid hydrogen in tankers; storage in the distribution station. - the second way is identical to the first, except that initial hydrogen production is by the electrolysis of water.
