Abstract
During the study described here attempts were made to establish a link between the occurrence of hyperthyreoidism and prior contamination with iodinated contrast media in connection with X-ray procedures, among which particular attention was given to lymphography. In a prospective study performed for that purpose five out of the 108 patients subjected to lymphography were found to develop hyperthyroidism, which manifested itself after a latency period of one month. Further retrospective analyses on the basis of 2453 patients receiving lymphography showed that among these individuals fifteen developed hyperthyroidism during the first year after the procedure. In all, twenty cases of hyperthyroidism occurred in this cohort within a period of two years and six months after lymphography. Retrospective studies were also performed in a group of patients showing excessive production of thyroid hormone who, according to their case reports, developed the disease within a period of up to three months after opacification of the bile ducts or urinary tract. Direct links could be established for 81 (16.6%) among the 499 patients questioned for this purpose. (orig.). [Deutsch] Vorliegende Arbeit hat den Zusammenhang einer Hyperthyreose und vorausgegangener Kontamination mit jodhaltigen Roentgenkontrastmitteln zu zeigen versucht, wobei das eigentliche Augenmerk den Lymphographien galt. Im Rahmen einer prospektiven Studie wurde bei fuenf von 108 daraufhin untersuchten Patienten eine Hyperthyreose nach Lymphographie festgestellt, bei einer Latenzzeit von einem Monat. Retrospektiv waren es unter den 2453 lymphographierten Patienten fuenfzehn Hyperthyreosefaelle mit einer Latenzzeit bis zu einem Jahr. Insgesamt fanden sich zwanzig durch Lymphographie induzierte Hyperthyreosen bei einer zweieinhalbjaehrigen Latenzzeit. Weiterhin wurde retrospektiv denjenigen Schilddruesenueberfunktionen nachgegangen, die in ihrer Anamnese eine Untersuchung mit Chole- und/oder Urographika bis zu drei Monaten vor Auftreten ihrer Erkrankung angaben. Unter den 499 diesbezueglich befragten Patienten war bei 81 ein direkter Zusammenhang ersichtlich (16,6%). (orig.).}
