Abstract
Mercury Iodide (HgI{sub 2}) platelets were grown from the vapor phase in the presence of polymers. These platelets are convenient to be used as room temperature operating semiconductor radiation detectors. Experiments demonstrate that the growth of platelets depends on a two-stage mass transport instead of depending on just one, as it has been thought. HgI{sub 2} platelets 30 mm{sup 2} large and 90 {mu}m thick were obtained in a sealed evacuated fused quartz tube and were characterized by etch pit density measurements. (author).
