Abstract
A short description of the need for nuclear materials safeguards and of their historical-political evolution introduces, as the main topic, an overview of the technical features of safeguard systems. Particular attention is devoted to fissile material measuring processes in current use and those under the research and development phase. The final topic focuses on possible extensions of safeguard methodologies to fields other than the nuclear one.
