Abstract

A new type of flywheel for vehicles is developed from the wheel described in Risoe report M-2803. The storage of energy is further improved with 35% for same weight and volumen, and it is far better than existing flywheels for vehicles. The rim is made of fiber reinforced plastic coal-glas-PES. The main reason for the improvement is that the rim is connected to the expanded shaft by a cylinder made by reinforced plastic, which due to a special developed winding is very strong and without bending stresses or radial shear stresses at the connection to the shaft, which is made by a double overlap adhesion joint. Flywheels of this type can be made uniform from 3 kg to many tons. The wheel is universal applicable. (au) (13 ills.).
