Abstract

For the evaluation of the results obtained in TMI-2 VIP and for the preparation of the continuing discussion in the OECD and of research measures in the national sphere but also for the appraisal of the effect of the results to date on safety philosophy and safety research in Germany, the present research project, inter alia, was commenced. In content was: (a) Furtherance of the OECD-NEA-TMI-2 Vessel Investigation Project in dealing with the testing programme by active collaboration in the Programme Review Group, by participation in ad-hoc meetings on the question of specimen extraction, by advice on the conduct of metallographic, metallurgical and mechanical investigations on the specimens from the RPV bottom head and by assessment of the findings. (b) Investigation of specimens from the bottom head of the TMI-2 reactor pressure vessel. (c) Investigation of specimens from archive material. The investigations reach the widely agreed conclusion that during the accident a hot spot developed in the bottom head of the reactor in which for a time of about 30 minutes a maximum temperature of some 1100 C or greater than 900 C prevailed. [Deutsch] Zur Bewertung der im TMI-2 VIP ermittelten Ergebnisse sowie zur Vorbereitung der weiterlaufenden Diskussion bei der OECD und von Forschungsmassnahmen im nationalen Bereich, aber auch zur Abschaetzung der Auswirkung der bisherigen Ergebnisse auf die Sicherheitsphilosophie und -forschung in Deutschland wurde u.a. mit dem vorliegenden Forschungsvorhaben begonnen. Inhaltlich befasst es sich mit der - versuchsbetreuenden Begleitung des OEC-NEA-TMI-2 Vessel Investigation Project durch aktive Mitarbeit in der Programme Review Group, durch die Teilnahme bei ad-hoc-Treffen zu Fragen der Probenentnahme, durch Beratung bei der Durchfuehrung von metallografischen, metallkundlichen und mechanisch-technologischen Untersuchungen an den Proben aus dem RDB-Boden sowie durch die Beurteilung der Befunde, - Untersuchung von Proben aus dem TMI-2 Reaktordruckbehaelterboden, - Untersuchung von Proben aus Archivmaterial. Die Untersuchungen fuehren weitgehend uebereinstimmend zu der Erkenntnis, dass sich waehrend des Unfalls am Boden des Reaktors eine heisse Zone ausbildete, in der fuer eine Zeit von rund 30 min eine maximale Temperatur von etwa 1100 C bzw. groesser als 900 C herrschte. Um diese Zone herum gibt es ein Gebiet mit Temperaturen hoeher als rund 730 C (A{sub 1}), waehrend der ueberwiegende Teil des Bodens nicht ueber A{sub 1}-Temperatur erwaermt worden ist. (orig.)}
