Studies on dust separation in wet scrubbers by water vapour condensation; Untersuchungen zur Staubabscheidung in Nassabscheidern durch Wasserdampfkondensation

Abstract

The off-gas from the incineration of waste and fossil fuels contains numerous gaseous and solid pollutants which must be removed as far as possible from this off-gas by off-gas cleaning. This investigation involved experiments in which very fine dust particles (aerosols) in the particle size range from 0.05 to 6 {mu}m were separated from the gas in a spray washer. The objective was to examine the extent to which dust separation can be improved or simplified by combining it with the condensation of the water vapour present in the exhaust gas. A laboratory facility was constructed for these investgations providing the possibility of comparing various process technologies during condensation in front of and in a wet scrubber while varying the gas parameters of dust content, particle size distribution and water vapour content. The results of the measurements show that not the water content or the condensed water quantity alone is of significance for improving the dust separation by condensation of water vapour. On the contrary, the essential prerequisite is a proper procedure for initiating condensation and the creation of thermodynamic conditions under which a condensation on the aerosols is possible. If these conditions, realizable with existing scrubbers, are achieved then  More>>

On the contrary, the essential prerequisite is a proper procedure for initiating condensation and the creation of thermodynamic conditions under which a condensation on the aerosols is possible. If these conditions, realizable with existing scrubbers, are achieved then condensation leads to improved dust separation over the entire particle size range. In the experiments improvements of up to 95% or more of the total degree of separation were achieved by condensation in comparison to separtion without condensation. (orig.). [Deutsch] Bei der Verwendung von Abfall und fossilen Brennstoffen entsteht ein Abgas, welches zahlreiche gasfoermige und feste Schadstoffe enthaelt, die in der Rauchgasrenigung weitestgehend aus dem Abgas entfernt werden muessen. Gegenstand dieser Arbeit waren Experimente, bei denen feinste Staubteilchen (Aerosole) im Partikelgroessenbereich von 0,05 bis 6 {mu}m in einem Spruehwaescher aus dem Gas abgeschieden wurden. Ziel hierbei war es, zu untersuchen, inwieweit die Staubabscheidung durch eine Kombination mit der Kondensation des im Abgas vorhandenen Wasserdampfes verbessert bzw. vereinfacht werden kann. Fuer diese Untersuchungen wurde eine Laboranlage aufgebaut, die die Moeglichkeit bot, verschiedene Verfahrenstechniken bei der Kondensation vor und in einem Nassabscheider bei Variation der Gasparameter Staubgehalt, Partikelgroessenverteilung und Wasserdampfgehalt miteinander zu vergleichen. Die Ergebnisse der Messungen zeigen, dass fuer die Verbesserung der Staubabscheidung durch die Kondensation des Wasserdampfs nicht allein der Wasserdampfgehalt bzw. die auskondensierte Wassermenge von Bedeutung ist. Wesentlich sind vielmehr eine richtige Vorgehensweise bei der Kondensationseinleitung und die Schaffung von thermodynamischen Bedingungen, unter denen eine Kondensation auf den Aerosolen moeglich ist. Wenn dies auch bei bestehenden Waeschern realisierbaren Bedingungen gegeben sind, fuehrt die Kondensation zu einer verbesserten Staubabscheidung im gesamten Partikelgroessenbereich. Bei den Experimenten ergaben sich Verbesserungen des Gesamtabscheidegrades durch die Kondensation bis ueber 95% gegenueber der Abscheidung ohne Kondensation erzielen. (orig.).}
