The variational spiked oscillator

Abstract

A variational analysis of the spiked harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian -d{sup 2} / d x{sup 2} + x{sup 2} + {delta}/ x{sup 5/2}, {delta} > 0, is reported in this work. A trial function satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions is suggested. The results are excellent for a large range of values of the coupling parameter. (author).
