Simple model of gain saturation in free electron lasers

Abstract

This paper analyzes the dynamics of a free electron laser (FEL) in the strong signal regime. A parallel is drawn with the dynamics of a conventional laser. A simple model of gain saturation is developed, and a scaling relation of gain versus the intra-cavity laser intensity is derived.
