Radiolytic electron transfer in cobaloximes

Abstract

Chloro(pyridine [bis(dimethylglyoximato)] Co(III) and alkyl(pyridine[bis(dimethylglyoximato)]Co(III) were reduced by solvated electrons and by other reducing radicals in irradiated solutions under different conditions. These complexes were reduced to Co(II) state initially. Further reduction gave the Co(I) state, which was stable under anaerobic conditions but only in alkaline solutions, in the case of Cl(py) (dmg){sub 2}Co(III). (author). 7 refs.
