Abstract
We review the structure of W{sub {infinity}} algebras, their super and topological extensions, and their contractions down to (super) w{sub {infinity}}. Emphasis is put on the field theoretic realizations of these algebras. We also review the structure of w{sub {infinity}} and W{sub {infinity}} gravities and comment on various applications of W{sub {infinity}} symmetry. (author). 42 refs.
