Low frequency response of a dusty plasma

Abstract

The dielectric properties of a plasma embedded with charged dust particles are examined. The presence of dust introduces a background inhomogeneous electric field which significantly influences the dispersion properties of the plasma medium. At low frequencies we find important modifications of the ion acoustic branch as well as the existence of a new mode arising from the oscillations of the ions in the static structure of the dust distribution.
