Abstract
The spin-orbit structure of F{sub A} in KCl:Li and KCl:Na have been studied by means of the magnetic circular dichroism. Due to their C{sub 4V}, symmetry the F{sub A} centers have two different spin-orbit parameters, {Delta}{sup *} and {Delta}{sup *}, which only in the KCl:Li case follow the relation: {Delta}{sup *} < {Delta}{sub F} < {Delta} as expected from the theory. For a close comparison, measurement of the spin-orbit coupling of F center in KCl is reported. The spin-orbit parameters of the F and F{sub A} centers have been determined using the method of moment.
